The Human Race Just Got Older

leave a comment »

In a fascinating discovery, human made beads have been discovered that are at least 25,000 years older than other beads. Obviously this discovery has limited practical value, but it does show us that our ancestors have been “human” longer than we thought. While the boundary between what is human and what isn’t human has grown increasingly vague in recent years, so far humans are the only animals that make and wear jewelry.

And we have been doing so for at least 100,000 years now. Of course what we were doing in the previous 100,000 years is a little vague. What are apparently modern human skeletons have been found that are almost 200,000 years old. I guess we’re slow starters.
