Virginia lawmaker: Children with disabilities are God’s punishment to women who previously had abortions.
The gentle reader read that right. Virginia State Delegate Bob Marshall (R,) speaking at a press conference against state funding for Planned Parenthood had this to say:
“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children, in the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”
Yes, this man’s Christian God cripples babies to teach their moms a lesson. Wow. I don’t recall Jesus ever saying anything along those lines, but I missed a lot of Sunday School as a kid. On the plus side, we can be thankful this guy’s a politician, not a judge. “The jury has found you guilty as charged. Bailiff, shoot the defendant’s baby.”
And people wonder why I have a problem with organized religion. The worst part is there will be people that will agree with his views. Absolutely disgusting.

Interesting…I am glad he doesn’t speak for all Christians!

Agreed, a point I try to keep in mine whenever I criticize anyone. Yes, many or most Christians are appalled by the, well, hate speech, perpetrated by some of the “Christian right,” whatever that means. —Doug

I also decided to share this on my face book page…although it is interesting, it also irks me that someone could say such outlandish comments.

If the mechanism dates back to biblical times why has its consequence “increased dramatically”?

Well, I posted this mostly because sometimes I think my own jokes are hysterical, and my “Bailiff, shoot the defendant’s baby.” just cracked me up. Glad at least one other person thought it was funny. And becasue of what I see as a rising tide of both misogynist comments from some parts of the political spectrum, and misogynistic laws as well. I’m very pro-choice, so this is an alarming development, and I will be making more posts along these lines. —Doug

Those legislators from the Bible belt states are a piece of work… another reason to stay living on the left coast. Its amazing that we have a ‘union’ at all, really.
